Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency: Phrase book and Dictionary, Classical and Neo-Latin, Fourth Edition
John C. Traupman
Unlike your usual textbook, this book allows you to start at any chapter that interests you. Why? Because the chapters are not arranged in the order of difficulty. On the other hand, the model conversations in each chapter are arranged in order of difficulty. That is, the grammatical structures of the conversations at Level 1are simpler than those at Levels 2 and 3.
-
Therefore it is quite possible to go through the entire book using only the conversations at Level 1 and then go through the book again, using Levels 2 and 3.
-
In the conversations you may run across grammatical forms that you have not covered in class as yet. For instance, you may come across the subjunctive form e§mus (let’s go). It happened to be called for in that conversation. So what if you haven’t learned the entire subjunctive system as yet? You now know what it means, and so you can use it.
