The company founded by the famous Hanoverian court Jew Leffmann Behrens ran into trouble under his grandsons. The electoral judiciary accused them of fraudulent bankruptcy. They were imprisoned and tortured. This volume presents and analyzes the archival sources and compares them with the personal account of one of the victims (a "Megillah"), which is provided here in the Yiddish original, in a High German translation, and in transliteration.
